When a facility posts a matching shift, it lands in your account — and reaches you by text or email if you've turned alerts on. The first qualified caregiver to claim it gets the shift.
STEP 4 · PER SHIFT
Work it, get paid
Clock in, do your shift, clock out. We pay you on the agreed schedule — no chasing facility AP, no invoices.
WHO CAN JOIN
You must be 18+, legally authorized to work in the U.S., and hold a current credential for the role you want to work.
Active Michigan CNA registry listing in good standing.
Active, unencumbered Michigan LPN license.
Active, unencumbered Michigan or compact RN license.
Current state-approved med tech / med pass certification.
Willing to pass our background check and complete onboarding.
THE QUESTIONS CAREGIVERS ASK FIRST
Are CareRelay caregivers employees or contractors?
Caregivers on CareRelay are independent contractors and work under a per-shift service engagement. You are responsible for your own taxes; we'll send any required tax forms based on what you earn through the platform.
How does pay work?
Each shift offer shows the rate before you accept. CareRelay pays you per filled shift on the schedule we agree to during onboarding. There is no agency markup pulling from your hourly rate.
Do I need a smartphone or app?
No. If you turn on SMS alerts, shift offers come as plain text messages — if you can receive a text, you can pick up shifts. Prefer not to text? Choose email alerts, or browse and claim open shifts from your account in any browser. SMS is never required.
What if I'm unavailable for a while?
Turn off SMS in your settings, or reply STOP to any text, and alerts stop — no penalty, and your account and access to shifts are unaffected. Turn alerts back on whenever you're ready.
Do you only operate in Michigan?
For now, yes. CareRelay is starting with assisted living homes in Michigan and will expand once we're running smoothly here.
What happens if I get hurt on a shift?
You're an independent contractor, so we strongly recommend carrying your own occupational accident or short-term disability coverage.
